Thomas Chirnside Primary School is leading the way in Victoria. Our school is continuing to implement the highly successful Professional Learning Communities At Work model of Richard and Rebecca Dufour.

Working in a Professional Learning Community teachers collaboratively plan a guaranteed and viable curriculum; they monitor individual student learning; and, act at point of need to ensure that all students experience success in learning. The school provides an innovative system of intervention for all its students. Our students are provided with extra time and support to learn essential content. Those students who already know the essential content of the curriculum are provided with extension and enrichment.

TCPS is considered a showcase school and is improving teaching and learning through Marzano’s High Reliability Schools Framework. Robert Marzano is an internationally recognised expert leading school reform in the 21st Century. TCPS has recently been recognised by Phil Warrick, associate Vice President of Marzano Research, as a school that has undertaken incredible work using the High Reliability Schools framework. We focus on the development of: a safe and collaborative culture; a quality curriculum; effective teaching; proficiency scales and standards-referenced reporting.

The in-school and extra-curricular programs offered in music, performing arts, visual arts, bands and choir, reflect the unique skills and talents of our staff and their ability to encourage participation at a very high level.

The extensive and creative Visual Arts program offers learning experiences across a wide variety of mediums and each year our students are given the opportunity to exhibit their work at the National Gallery of Victoria.

In addition to Performing and Visual Arts, we have a comprehensive Physical Education and Sports Program which is undertaken by all students and offers them the opportunity to not only improve personal health and fitness, but to take part in local and interschool sporting competitions.  In conjunction with this we offer a Swimming Program for students in Years F - 2 and an extensive Camping Program across Years 3-6.

I am proud that our school focus is on building an environment where every child will achieve success. The school culture ensures inclusive classroom learning environments that promote respectful relationships. This allows the school to offer the very best learning opportunities so that all children can succeed in a safe and secure environment.

There are many more reasons to attend Thomas Chirnside Primary School. We hope you will come and see for yourself!

Kind Regards,

Bev Thompson
Principal
